Membership -

Credit unions, including “Apple Federal Credit Union,” are non-profit financial cooperatives that are ‘owned and operated’ by their members. A U.S. government organization called the “National Credit Union Administration” (NCUA) insures all accounts at ‘Apple Federal Credit Union’ up to a $250,000 limit. But investment funds, like “stocks, bonds, equities, etc.,” are not covered by the NCUA

Apple Financial Services LLC -

Since its founding in 1989, “Apple Financial Services LLC,” a wholly-owned subsidiary of ‘Apple Federal Credit Union,’ has been offering a range of professional services tailored to the needs of Apple FCU members. These services include ‘insurance, investment, and retirement planning,’ to help protect members’ assets and plan for the future. The tax preparation services offered by “Apple Financial Services” are not connected to “CUSO Financial Services, L.P.” (CFS), nor is Apple Financial Services directly related with CFS. The Apple FCU and CFS have an agreement in place for the Apple FCU to provide its members with non-deposit investment “products and services.” Furthermore, neither CFS nor its agents offer tax advice. CFS, a registered broker-dealer (Member FINRA/SIPC) and a SEC Registered Investment Advisor, provides non-deposit investment “products and services.”

The products offered through CFS are:

  • Not ‘federally insured’ or covered by NCUA/NCUSIF.
  • Not Apple FCU’s promises or commitments.

Apple FCU and NextMark Credit Union -

In June 2024, Apple FCU and “NextMark Credit Union” announced an exciting decision to merge, pending approval. The united credit union, should the merger go through, will have assets in excess of $4.8 billion, serve over 260,000 members, and run 25 branches throughout “Northern Virginia.” It is projected that the merger would be completed in ‘early 2025,’ assuming all necessary clearances.

This merger aims to “enhance member services, expand branch access, and strengthen the financial stability of the newly formed institution,” providing greater resources and opportunities for its members.

Apple FCU and Government shutdown -

During a government shutdown, ‘Apple Federal Credit Union’ provides various forms of assistance to help its members manage financial challenges.

  • Skip-A-Loan Payment: Apple FCU may offer a Skip-A-Loan Payment option, allowing members to temporarily skip a loan payment without it negatively affecting their ‘credit score.’ Not every kind of loan is eligible. For information, see “applefcu.org/skip”.
  • Penalty-Free Certificate Withdrawal: This allows members to withdraw funds from their “Certificates” (also known as CDs), without incurring the usual early withdrawal penalties.
  • Government Shutdown Loan: Apple FCU might be able to offer you a loan with low APR interest if you work for the ‘federal government,’ have direct deposit with Apple FCU, and aren’t getting paid during the shutdown. The loan is designed to help members cover essential expenses like “rent, utilities, and groceries.”
  • FREE BALANCE Financial Counseling: Through this service, members can access: Personalized financial advice, Debt management guidance, Credit report reviews, and Long-term financial planning.
