Founded as the “Morgan Athletic Club” in Chicago in 1898, the team became the “Chicago Cardinals” when it became a charter member of the NFL in 1920. The Cardinals’ only two NFL Championships were earned in 1925 and 1947 while they were situated in “Chicago.”
In 1960, following forty seasons in Chicago, the club relocated to “St. Louis.” The Cardinals relocated to Phoenix in 1988, their second migration. From 1988 to 1993, the team was called the “Phoenix Cardinals.” They changed their name to “Arizona Cardinals” in 1994.
The NFL created history in 2005 when the Cardinals took part in the league’s first-ever regular season match held outside of the “U.S.” The Cardinals made it to “Super Bowl XLIII” in 2009, however they were defeated 27–23 by the Pittsburgh Steelers.
In 1973–1977, “Don Coryell” became the first coach in team history to guide the team to three seasons in a row with ten or more wins.
2019 saw 77,653 fans attend the “Garth Brooks” event at State Farm Stadium, the greatest turnout to date. The stadium’s economic impact from hosting the NCAA Men’s Final Four, the Pro Bowl, the Super Bowl, and the “College Football National Championship Game” over a 26-month period in 2015–17 was approximately 1.3 billion.
Arizona Sports, 98.7 FM, will broadcast Cardinals games starting from 2023. For each match, “Arizona Sports” will also broadcast pre- and post-game shows. Locally in Phoenix, KOMR Amor 106.3 FM (Univision) carries the Cardinals “Spanish-language” game broadcast. Additionally, Toño 92.5 FM broadcasts games in “Tucson” and the neighboring areas.
In 2022, along with Patrick Peterson (7) and Ollie Matson (6), “Budda Baker” became just the third player in Cardinals history to be selected to at least six Pro Bowls in his first seven NFL seasons. He was only the fourth player in the history of the team to win “NFC Defensive Player of the Month” in 2020.
In his professional debut, “Marquise Brown” became the first player in NFL history to have two touchdown catches of forty yards or more. During his stay at the University of Oklahoma, Brown — a native of “Hollywood, Florida” — became known as “Hollywood.”
In 2021, “Zach Ertz” made NFL history by becoming the first player to catch a touchdown pass for two different clubs in consecutive games throughout a season. He became the first TE, in nearly “two decades,” to reach 500 receiving yards in a season with the Cardinals in 2021.
“Trey McBride” set a franchise record in 2023 (season) by becoming the first tight end in 34 years to surpass 100 yards in a game, and by having 81 receptions in a season. His 825 yards from 81 receptions are second-most in the team’s history for a “tight end” (TE).
On a play that was the first-ever touchdown pass reception by a kicker from a “punter” (Matt Haack) in NFL history in 2019. “Matt Haack” became the 19th punter in the NFL to throw a touchdown pass. Also, in 2019 at “NFL Honors,” he was named the NFL Play of the Year.
“D.J. Humphries” became the first tackle to play for the Cardinals in the Pro Bowl since Lomas Brown in 1996 and “the first offensive lineman since Mike Iupati in 2015.” He was given the “2020 Steve Schoenfeld Good Guy Award” by the PWFA local chapter in recognition of his cooperation and wisdom when interacting with the media.
With more than 70 passing touchdowns and 20 rushing touchdowns in just his first three seasons, quarterback “Kyler Murray” made NFL history. Additionally, in each of his first three seasons, he became the first player in “league” history to record 3,500+ passing yards and 400+ rushing yards.
“Matt Prater” made NFL history in 2023 by becoming the 12th player to reach 400 career field goals and the 19th player to reach 1,700 career points. With 12 successful field goals of 50-plus yards in just 30 games over the course of two seasons (2021–2022), he is second in franchise history only to “Neil Rackers” (16 in 100 games).

During that stretch, there were “five straight games with a rushing touchdown,” which tied the record for another longest streak in team history.
“Colt Mccoy” (QB) set a record in the team in 2021 by having the greatest completion % of any player with 40-plus attempts — 79.5. In addition, he recorded two of the franchise’s “top ten single-game completion percentages” ever.
