NASCAR Technical Institute (NASCAR Tech), a subsidiary school of Universal Technical Institute (UTI), Inc., USA. NTI campus is situated IN MOORESVILLE, NC. Since its inception, NASCAR Technical Institute has placed over 5,000 of its previous graduates in the automobile and auto racing professions. Of NASCAR Tech’s graduates, 4 out of 5 find work in industries related to what they studied. Another important aspect of NASCAR Tech is its exceptional 90% job placement rate upon graduation.
Being the first technical training institution to formally integrate a complete automotive technology curriculum with courses tailored specifically for NASCAR.
NASCAR Technical Institute’s primary vocational school courses can help prepare you to obtain a job in the “automotive, welding, HVACR, robotics and automation, and CNC machining industries“. Further graduates of these courses are eligible to the NASCAR Technology advanced training program i.e., Nascar Mechanic Technician Training Program. In 2023, NASCAR Technical Institute added two newest courses: “Heating Ventilation Air Conditioning Heating and Refrigeration (HVACR)” and “Robotics and Automation”.
Students receive practical experience with power trains, brakes, transmissions, electronics, diagnostic equipment, gasoline and ignition systems, engines, and repair. Students are also introduced to modern methods for testing and developing NASCAR engines, as well as fabrication and pit crew training.
As of 2021, “Mechanical Technologies (418 degrees awarded)” and “Precision Production (79 degrees awarded)” are the most specialised courses at NASCAR Technical Institute.
In 2021, grants and loans accounted for 85% of the financial aid obtained by undergraduate students at NASCAR Technical Institute. NASCAR Tech still assists deserving students in locating grants, scholarships, and other forms of financial support to help reduce their costs.

NASCAR Tech Graduates -
Graduates of “NASCAR Technical Institute” are qualified for entry-level positions as automotive service technicians.
More than 50 NASCAR Tech graduates are currently working at “Team Penske“, which has won 20 races so far in 2018 throughout NASCAR, INDYCAR, IMSA, and Australian Supercars, including its 17th Indianapolis 500 victory. “Travis Law” has been working with Team Penske for ten years. He is the main mechanic of “Josef Newgarden’s No. 1 Verizon IndyCar Series Dallara/Chevrolet” and a 2006 graduate of NASCAR Tech. In 2014, Law became an “IndyCar head technician”. He started his career as a tyre specialist and worked his way to become a mechanic.
Colin Fambrough, another graduate and a rear tire changer on the Miller Lite Ford, has already been a member of 2 “NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Championship” teams when he was in the pits.
Daniel Smith, a 2004 graduate who is currently the rear tyre changer on “Tony Stewart’s No. 14” car, and Katy Renard, a 2005 graduate who is currently employed as “NASCAR’s chassis pre-certification manager“.
Three of the twelve races in the “K&N Pro Series East” were won by NASCAR Tech graduates-built power units, and six pole victories were shared by two separate drivers. In the 2012 “NASCAR K&N Pro Series East”, where NASCAR Tech students constructed and maintained the engines for Larson’s (winner) “Rev Racing” cars. The no. 2 “Tech Rev Racing Toyota Camry”, driven to Victory Lane by driver “Collin Cabre”, was also an outcome of the “NASCAR Spec Engine Program“.
Student-built engines won seven feature races in the “NASCAR Modified Division” at “Bowman Grey Stadium” in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, in addition to winning the track title with driver Burt Myers.
In order to increase Kevin Harvick’s prospects of winning the Sprint Cup title in his debut season with the Stewart-Haas organisation, three NASCAR Tech graduates joined his pit crew.
In all, 7 NASCAR Tech graduates made it through the ranks of “Action Express Racing” team, with two of them rising to the position of crew chief in less than five years after being appointed.
Graduates of the CNC Machining Technology course at NASCAR Technical Institute go on to work in a wide range of sectors, including electronics, medical, and defence (in addition to transportation). Wyatt, after completing his studies at NASCAR Tech in 2020, has been employed in North Carolina by Compaero Inc. as a CNC operator. Compaero provides parts to the defence and aerospace sectors.
In 2018, the minimum educational qualification necessary for automobile repair technicians and mechanics was a high school diploma, accounting for more than half (58.7%) of total automotive technicians. Further, on-the-job training was mandated for more than seventy percent (76.7%) of these personnel (i.e., of total automotive technicians).
Difference between technician and mechanic: someone who uses their hands to perform tasks is referred to as a “mechanic”. “Technician” is the term used nowadays because of the use of technology in finding automobile faults and to scan tools.

According to projections from the U.S. Bureau of Labour Statistics, the following occupations will have the following national average number of job opportunities per year between 2020 and 2030: Welders, cutters, solderers, and brazers make up 49,200; bus and truck mechanics, 28,100; and automotive service technicians and mechanics, 69,000. From 2022 to 2032, employment of mechanics and service technicians for automobiles is expected to expand by 2%, or roughly the same rate as the mean growth for all occupations.
About 234,800 jobs were taken on by heavy vehicle and mobile equipment service technicians in 2022 (projected to grow 6% – faster than average).
Through 2031, the U.S. Bureau of Labour Statistics predicts there will be 40,100 yearly job opportunities for mechanics and installers of refrigeration, air conditioning, and heating systems.
Not only are graduates earning jobs in the NASCAR positions, Keselowski is utilising the UTI talent pool for Keselowski Advanced Manufacturing, his own business situated in Statesville, North Carolina.
In 2023, UTI collaborated with TA ( TravelCenters of America) to offer early employment and tuition reimbursement to students and graduates. They named this collaboration as Early Employment program (EEP). TA will provide current students with 20–30 hours of paid job experience as part of UTI’s EEP, and they will also be given preference for a full-time job upon graduation. TA will provide relocation aid and freshly hired bonus payments to technicians countrywide after six months and a year of work.
NASCAR Tech’s industry partner, “Roush Yates Engines”, advises and supports the institute’s curriculum. Additionally, the organisation recruited 70 tech school graduates from NASCAR Tech and Universal Technical Institute till 2019.
Ford and UTI have been working together for almost 20 years through its “Ford FACT (Ford Accelerated Credential Training)” program to prepare students for staying at the forefront of new technologies like EV.
Some UTI alumni find employment in their discipline of study as parts associates, service writers, smog inspectors, and other roles unrelated to automotive technician. “Service manager, master technician, fleet technician, drivability technician, diagnostic technician, heavy line technician, quick service technician, and shop owner” are some more advanced automotive occupations that you may consider as you gain expertise.
Students can assist in establishing themselves with potential employers by participating in “Manufacturer-Specific Advanced Training programs” and attending university job fairs. Nascar Mechanic Technician Training Program is an example of “Manufacturer-Specific Advanced Training programs”.
NASCAR Tech Salary -
In May 2022, the Bureau of Labour Statistics (BLS) reported that the median yearly earnings of “mechanics and automotive repair” technicians in the US was $46,970. Further in May 2022, regarding CNC machining, the Bureau of Labour Statistics (BLS) indicates that the median yearly earnings of “computer-controlled tool” operators in the United States was $46,760.
In May 2022, according to estimates from the U.S. Department of Labour, proficient automobile technicians in North Carolina make an hourly median income of $21.80.

What does a NASCAR Tech do ? -

The job description of a vehicle technician includes:
